“Clearest Blue”, the new music video from CHVRCHES comes in the form of a mysterious, slightly fragmented narrative. It features frontwoman Lauren Mayberry in armour/tutu attire, band members Iain Cook and Martin Doherty walking through a forest, and a stranger wandering the street who is first seen sprawled on a road.
The smokey, dark visuals instantly reminded me of their video for “Leave A Trace”, though the new video, directed by Warren Fu, looks more like a short film. There is a climax in the video (mirrored by the music), which sees Mayberry cast off the armour, and the stranger getting hit by a car.
Both the music and the video are beautiful on their own, and together they fit really well. Watch the whole thing below:
