Kanye West can’t stop bad-mouthing Taylor Swift, both through his comments and his songs. His latest ‘achievement’ on the Swift front has been his single “Famous”, which includes the lyric “I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that b***h famous”.
Even though most people were appalled by the fact that West thinks Swift owes him her success, the rapper defended the song during his set at the Paradise International Music Festival in Manila, the Philippines, on Saturday (April 9). After performing the track, he said “It’s something I wanted to say so bad that they told me I couldn’t say”.
Referring to the time he interrupted Swift’s speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs, he added, “that night when I went onstage was the beginning of the end of my life. You know what night I’m talking about. When I just said what everybody else was thinking. So if I get in trouble for saying the truth; what’s being said the rest of the time?”
“I had to fight for every day of my life when the whole world turned against me for saying out loud what everyone else felt”, he continued. “But that’s the job of an artist, of a true artist, not to be controlled by financiers, not to be controlled by perception but only to be controlled by their truth”.
Taylor Swift had also presumably addressed the “Famous” lyric in February, during her acceptance speech for the ‘Album of the Year’ award at the Grammys.
“There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” she said. “But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you will look around and you will know it was you and the people who love you who put you there, and that will be the greatest feeling in the world”.
