Former Beatles drummer Ringo Starr has made a stand by joining the LGBT debate in North Carolina. Like Bruce Springsteen, he has cancelled his concert in the Southern state after a law (House Bill 2) was passed which prevents transgender people from using the toilet that matches their gender. The new law caused widespread controversy when first announced, and continues to do so.
More artists due to play in the area include Beyoncé, Justin Bieber, Pearl Jam and Cindy Lauper, all of whom have been strong supporters of the LGBT community. This has led to speculation that they may pull their concerts too.
It’s safe to say that pressure is mounting on North Carolina to overturn the law, and artists are united in preventing its implementation in other states.
