In preparation for the imminent start of season 6 remind yourself of the political power shifts of season 5.
The continent of Westeros has seen many Kings recently but currently Cersei’s youngest son, Tommen, assumes the throne married to Lady Margaery Tyrell.
Cersei’s is losing her grip on her by-proxy rule through her children, and so she revives the Faith Militant who get a bi overzealous. They even arrest Cersei, for her own incestuous relationships.
Cersei admits to the count of adultery with her cousin, Lancel and is granted freedom until her trial, on the condition that she walk naked through the streets of King’s Landing.
After her walk of shame Cereei meets the reanimated corpse of Gregor ‘The Mountain’ Clegane.
While all of this is going on in King’s Landing, Jaime Lannister heads to Dorne to rescue his daughter Myrcella from the Martells, who blame that the Lannisters are responsible for the death of Oberyn back in season 4.
Doran Martell lets them go on the condition that his son, Trystane, replace Oberyn on the Small Council. They head back to King’s Landing, but Myrcella dies from poison secretly planted on her by a kiss from Ellaria Sand, Oberyn’s lover.
In Essos, Tyrion is kidnapped by Jorah Mormont, who intends to present him to Daenerys in order to regain her favor. Daenerys is dealing with the Sons of the Harpy rebel against her rule.
Daenerys reopens the fighting pits and enlists Tyrion’s aid but banishes Jorah – again. Jorah ends up in the fighting pits and saves Daenerys from the Sons of the Harpy but loads of them pour into the pit. All seems lost, until her missing dragon shows up and she rides away.
Daenerys lands in the middle of some Dothraki Warriors and Jorah with Daario go looking for her, leaving Tyrion in charge.
In Braavos Arya trains with Jaqen H’ghar and the assassins the Faceless Men. Her training requires her to track and kill a target known as the Thin Man, but kills Meryn Trant instead. She is punished with blindness by the Faceless Men.
Now to the Wall. Mance Rayder, the leader of the Wildlings refuses to Join Stannis’army and is burnt alive.
Jon refuses to join Stannis as well and later is elected as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch.
Stannis attacks against Bolton’s forces at Winterfell and sacrifices his own daughter to appease the gods. As a result, his wife hangs herself and half of his forces desert him, while the other half are vastly overpowered by Bolton’s own army. Stannis survives but runs into Brienne looking to revenge Renly’s death.
Petyr Baelish continues to scheme and weds Sansa Stark to Roose’s newly-legitimized son, Ramsay who rapes her. Sansa begs Reek (Theon Greyjoy) for help and they escapeWinterfell, leaping from the castle ramparts.
As Lord Commander, Jon Snow bargains with the Wildlings to allow them to live south of the Wall in exchange for an alliance against the White Walkers. After a harrowing fight he and the Wildlings escape, but witnesses the Night’s King reviving the dead.
However many members of the Night’s Watch aren’t too keen on this bargain so they lure him into the open and stab him repeatedly, leaving him for dead. but is he really dead??? Less than 24 hours to find out!
And don’t forget Bran Stark last seen in season 4 is returning with adventures at the Heart Tree and the three eyed Raven.
