Aaron Eckhart has signed on to star in action-thriller The Bricklayer, which will see him team up with Die Hard 2 director Renny Harlin. Hanna Weg is penning the script alongside Into The Blue scribe Matt Johnson, while Gerard Butler will produce.
Eckhart will play an ex-CIA operative brought back to the agency on a mission to uncover the identity of an unknown perpetrator slaughtering foreign members of the media and framing the CIA for the killings.
Known for being a cunning yet defiant agent, he soon find himself in the middle of an international emergency, as well as a face-off with his personal demons, as all eyes focus on America’s involvement in the slayings.
Harlin has been working in China in recent years and has talked about how that experience taught him the necessary role that emotional dialogue and acting plays in creating a successful film. He praised Weg and Johnson’s script for its “combination of well layered characters, intricate plotting and propulsive action.”
Eckhart is best known for films such as The Dark Knight, Erin Brockovich, and Thank You For Smoking.
In recent years he’s starred in Roland Emmerich‘s WWII action film Midway, Clint Eastwood‘s Sully, and action thriller Line Of Duty. He will also portray President Gerald Ford on The First Lady, Showtime’s upcoming anthology series created by Aaron Cooley.
Production on The Bricklayer is expected to begin in Greece in March. No release date has yet been set.
