Marvel have announced that 27-year-old British actor Aaron Pierre will star alongside Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) in the Blade reboot. Although there is not an exact release date, the upcoming vampire film will most likely enter the big screens in early 2024.
When the reboot was first announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, it was also revealed that Ali will be playing the lead role as the super-human vampire slayer. Then in November 2021, Marvel officially unveiled Delroy Lindo (The Harder They Fall) as another cast member. Now Pierre has become the third actor to be added to the Blade cast, although his exact role in the film remains unknown.
Born in Brixton, South London, Pierre got his big break in the summer of 2021 when he appeared in Barry Jenkins’ critically-acclaimed miniseries The Underground Railroad and in M. Night Shyamalan’s thriller Old. Since then he has been cast by Disney to voice Mufasa in the Lion King 2.
The story of Blade hasn’t been told since the Wesley Snipes trilogy ended in 2004 and therefore, leaves a lot of room for director Bassam Tariq and writer Stacy Osei-Kuffour to create something unexpected.
Since the 2019 announcement of the Blade reboot, Marvel have had to push back the film due to the ongoing pandemic. However, the announcement of Pierre has reignited fans excitement over the creation of the film, and confirms that the production is finally coming together.
