Adam Devine, Rachel Bloom, Zazie Beetz and Ken Jeong will be the voices you hear in upcoming animated feature Extinct, which is being helmed by The Simpsons alums David Silverman and Raymond Persi.
Fellow Simpsons veterans Joel Cohen, John Frink, and Rob LaZebnik have penned the screenplay.
The film is an adventure-comedy that follows Op and Ed, two adorable donut-shaped animals known as Flummels, who accidentally time-travel from 1835 to modern-day Shanghai. There, they discover all the horrors of the modern world, but worst of all, that Flummels are now extinct. It’s up to the bumbling pair to save themselves and their species, and maybe change the course of history.
Cinesite Animation will oversee the film. The studio is new, and doesn’t exactly have the greatest track record such far. They’ve been behind other animated films such as Charming, Gnome Alone, and The Star.
None of them have been particularly well received. However, none of them had talented Simpsons writers on board, nor a cast as good as this. Hopefully Extinct is the film to turn their fortunes around.
Timeless Films will handle international sales, which will launch at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film is entering production in Montreal and is currently slated for a 2020 theatrical release.
