Enjoying a brilliant start to the year with singles “Let Me In” and “Collide”, brilliant Irish-based talent Tolü Makay unveils “Don’t Let Go”, her newest single and the leading charge to her forthcoming album.
Delicately blending the sounds of Jazz and Soul, “Don’t Let Go” is carried by its guitar melodies and piano chords, with care and attention given to its arrangement. Tolü’s powerful vocals is undoubtedly the centrepiece, truly to be enjoyed. While her voice conveys all the emotion, her words narrate a story of overcoming, as she encourages herself and the listener.
Going one step further, Tolü takes us into her world for the video. With 16mm film capturing her at her most intimate and innocent moments, she practises the art of reflection and self-care, she is evidently on the road to better days.
Citing influences from Nina Simone to Labrinth, Tolü Makay follows an exceptional list of talent who spent their early years perfecting their craft in the church before branching out to have seasoned careers; it seems like the writing is on the wall once again here. Reception to early releases “Ocean” and “Goodbye” point to great things, with the latter amassing over 800k streams on Spotify alone.
With the release of her debut project entitled Being around the corner, Tolü Makay reaffirms herself as a ‘one to watch’ for Ireland and beyond.
