New York afrofusion artist and producer Roadman has released his new EP titled Ghetto Boy Fly, which is packed with songs led by afrofusion instrumentals, catchy lyrics and generally give a good vibes feeling to the listener. The artist real name is Toro Alaba, and he mixes various genres in each song such as R&B, hip-hop and afrobeats.

 

Roadman started 2021 really well with Afrochella and Audiomack ranking him among their ‘Top 25 Rising Stars’ for the year, and his sound is very alike with the likes of Burna Boy. The artist also makes political statements within his songs, like with “Bound In Freedom”, he protests against corruption and injustice in his home country.

 

He started as a 10-year old drummer at church in Nigeria and by moving around a lot the nickname, Roadman stuck. Four years ago, he settled in America where he started creating music, later on, he did sound design studies at University of Rochester in New York under the Emmy Award winner Rob LaVaque.

 

When speaking about the newest EP, the artist states “The project touches on some of my challenges in life over the past year, and the longstanding issues that are very important to me – overcoming depression, police brutality, old flames, a failing country, and hope for the future”.
