Society is constantly evolving and, as such, the services in that society need to evolve. According to the Official Charts website, charts positions are determined by “sales of physical formats including CDs, vinyl albums and cassettes, as well as sales of digital bundles and (since February this year) audio streams”.
However, an additional source is being considered: albums sold at concerts. The new system is called Lightning Live and makes for a more accurate reflection of what music people are enjoying enough to buy. It will be interesting to see how much this changes the music industry and if some artists will be more inclined to perform live.
