While Alex Garland‘s latest film Annihilation is currently flying the flag for hard sci-fi at your local cinema (or on Netflix, depending where you reside), he’s already looking ahead to his next project. It won’t be a film, as he recently revealed that he’s working on a series for FX titled Devs.
The show is set in the world of tech, and FX has now officially announced a pilot order for the show while also unveiling some very intriguing plot details:
“In Devs, a young computer engineer, Lily, investigates the secretive development division of her employer, a cutting-edge tech company based in San Francisco, which she believes is behind the disappearance of her boyfriend”.
Garland has written the pilot himself and will direct and executive produce. It’s another female-centric sci-fi story from Garland, which will please fans that have devoured his cinematic work thus far, and the show is also a big cop for FX, who have recently lost prolific creator Ryan Murphy (Glee, American Horror Story) to Netflix.
Still, the network still boasts such acclaimed shows as Atlanta, The Americans and Legion, and with the addition of what’s sure to be a dense, enthralling show from Garland, FX is still in good hands. That’s assuming the pilot comes out well of course, but considering Garland’s immense talent, that seems like a good bet.
