Hulu has announced that Alexis Bledel will make more appearances in Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale, as she has been upped to series regular. Bledel held only a guest starring role in the first season of the show, appearing alongside fellow Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss (who is also an executive producer) in the lead.
Prior to appearing on the show, Bledel was most known for her role as Rory Gilmore which she recently reprised in miniseries Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life.
The show has been a great success, and according to Hulu, had the most-viewed premiere of any series on the streaming service.
The Handmaid’s Tale is based on Margaret Atwood‘s award winning dystopian book of the same name. The synopsis of the series on Hulu reads: “The Handmaid’s Tale is the story of life in the dystopia of Gilead, a totalitarian society in what was formerly the United States. Facing environmental disasters and a plunging birthrate, Gilead is ruled by a twisted fundamentalism in its militarized “return to traditional values.”
Both Bledel and Moss portray women subjected to life as a Handmaid, but have hope for the future thanks to a secret resistance group called Mayday.
Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale is expected to debut in 2018.
