Amazon has signed a deal with director Steven Soderbergh that will make his forthcoming film Logan Lucky exclusive to Amazon Prime Video customers during its initial first-run US streaming window.
The film is set to arrive in cinemas Friday, August 18, and Amazon now expects to release the film to their service in the first quarter of 2018. Additionally, the streaming giant has signed an exclusive deal with Fingerprint Releasing, the company created by Soderbergh and Dan Fellman, in which they will provide “strategic promotion and advertising financing” to help Fingerprint’s theatrical releases.
Logan Lucky is a big film for Soderbergh, the first after his four year ‘retirement’, and his excitement was clear in his statement:
“The deal with Amazon is the final, crucial piece of the puzzle. The scale of this endeavour required a fearless, flexible co-conspirator, and Amazon has shown they have the appetite and vision to help us navigate these semi-unchartered waters. I’m both relieved and excited, which is one of my favourite states of being”.
It’s a coup for Amazon, who hope to continue to make waves in the film industry to augment their success earlier this year with the Academy Award-winning Manchester By The Sea.
Logan Lucky stars Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, Riley Keough, Hilary Swank, Seth MacFarlane, Katie Holmes and Daniel Craig, and follows a family attempting to reverse a family cruse via an elaborate robbery. As noted, the film arrives Friday, August 18.
