Amazon Pilot Season has got its first full order, a rare two-season order, in fact. Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, from Gilmore Girls creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, has been picked up for two seasons. The show stars House Of Cards alum, Rachel Brosnahan, as Miriam Maisel, a 1968 New York City housewife who begins a journey to become a stand-up comic.
Amazon head of comedy and drama, Joe Lewis, said: “In her onstage debut, Mrs. Maisel killed and had audiences responding overwhelmingly with digital applause. Like any great young stand-up, we’re excited to see what she has to say next and for a long time to come. That made it an easy decision to order two seasons from Amy and her incredible cast. We can’t wait to bring it to customers soon”.
The show is currently one of five pilots available to watch on Amazon. It’s unclear how many episodes each season will consist of.
Sherman-Palladino is also waiting on whether Amazon rival, Netflix, will move forward on another round of the Gilmore Girls revival, which is totally up in the air right now. Until then, she’s got the full backing of Amazon – a multiple season order is usually reserved for high profile, proven commodities like Orange Is The New Black and The Big Bang Theory – to move ahead and hopefully create a legacy outside of Gilmore Girls.
