Some celebrities don’t like posing for selfies; some celebrities don’t even like you making direct eye-contact with them. So if you find a celebrity who’s willing to sidle up next to you and ‘say cheese’ for the camera, you should probably cherish him or her. If that celebrity is the current golden girl of comedy, Amy Schumer, however, you should probably leave the jokes to her.
One wise guy who didn’t take this advice on board is teenager Jackson Murphy, who collared Schumer for a photo at the Critics’ Choice Awards last Sunday (January 17). At the awards, Schumer took home the Best Actress In A Comedy award for her performance in Trainwreck, and also the coveted MVP (Most Valuable Player) award, thus proving her comedy credentials.
But 17 year old Murphy thought he could out-funny Schumer, adding the following caption to his star pic: “Spent the night with @amyschumer. Certainly not the first guy to write that.” He probably didn’t bank on Schumer not only seeing his sexist remark, but taking time out of her busy schedule to provide him with this response: “I get it. ‘Cause I’m a whore? Glad I took a photo with you. Hi to your dad.”
Murphy later came to his senses and decided he should leave the wise-cracking in the capable hands of Schumer herself. Schumer accepted his apology but added that she was pretty miffed by his ‘joke.’
Two lessons can be learned from this:
Let comedians take care of the comedy;
Celebrities have feelings too
