Anne Hathaway has signed on to star in The Idea of You, an adaptation of Robinne Lee‘s novel of the same name that’s being directed by Michael Showalter (The Big Sick).
Jennifer Westfeldt, who worked on Showtime’s anthology series The First Lady, has written the script, and the project is in development at Amazon Prime Video.
The novel, published in 2017, revolves around Solène Marchand, a recently divorced mother who reluctantly takes her daughter to see the boy band August Moon, only to end up growing an attraction to Hayes Campbell, one of its members. Despite the age difference, what begins as a series of clandestine trysts quickly evolves into a passionate and genuine relationship.
Showalter has experience helming films that focus on a romantic relationship, with The Big Sick being his most successful, so he’s a good fit for the project. His last film was 2020’s The Eyes Of Tammy Faye and he’s got Spoiler Alert: The Hero Dies, a biopic based on Michael Ausiello‘s memoir, due out in December.
Hathaway was recently seen playing one of the leads in miniseries WeCrashed, while she’s got James Gray‘s Armageddon Time and psychological thriller Mother’s Instinct lined up.
Amazon have huge series release The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power due out next week, so it’s a big period for the streaming part of the company. Other upcoming films set for an Amazon release include horror remake Goodnight Mommy and thriller Run Sweetheart Run.
Production on The Idea of You is expected to begin in October.
