Oh dear, oh my. It looks like Star Wars fans weren’t the only ones puzzled about C-3PO’s red arm in The Force Awakens, for Anthony Daniels has admitted the costume change was the one element he really disliked in J.J Abrams‘ creation.
Speaking to Screen Rant, Daniels revealed how he felt about the alteration for his beloved protocol droid: “The one thing that J.J. and I argued about was the fact that I didn’t like the red arm. C-3PO doesn’t like the red arm! Being the director he said ‘You’re gonna have a red arm'”.
He continued, explaining that Abrams eventually listened to Daniels and decided to restore C3PO to his original form: “But have you noticed, because he listened to me, that the last frame of C-3PO waving at the Millennium Falcon was with a gold arm! And J.J. did that – [I] love it”.
Although reasoning behind the arm was never explained in the film, several feel it sympolises the thirty year time transition for our Resistance friends and the struggles they have faced. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long for an explanation, for a future canon comic piece will center around C-3PO; finally revealing where the mysterious arm originated from.
