Anthony Hopkins and Glen Powell are teaming up for action-thriller Locked, a remake of Argentinian film 4X4. David Yarovesky is set to direct, while Michael Arlen Ross (Oracle) has written the script. The original film was written and directed by Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat.
Locked is being described as an intense, character-driven thriller about a thief who breaks into a luxury SUV, only to realize that he’s stumbled into a complex and deadly trap set by a mysterious figure. Sam Raimi‘s Raimi Productions is producing. He and Yarovesky previously collaborated together on Nightbooks. Raimi said in a statement:
“Dave so elevated the material on Nightbooks, and he was our first choice for this. The script was so good and he’s such a good communicator that we were able to interest Anthony Hopkins, who for my generation is just about the greatest actor ever.
This is not an emotional piece as much as it is an action tension piece, a nonstop thrill ride with characters at the center you learn to care about. That will be a satisfying experience for the audience.”
It’s a great mix of old and new school with the pairing of Hopkins and Powell. Hopkins’ 2022 consisted of Armageddon Time and The Son, and he has Zack Snyder space opera Rebel Moon and Nicholas Winton biopic One Life on the horizon.
Powell also had a good 2022, having a key role in Top Gun: Maverick. He also voiced a role in Richard Linklater‘s Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood, and starred in war film Devotion. He’s currently filming another project with Linklater – Hitman, based on the true story of the most sought-after hitman in New Orleans, who is secretly a cop working undercover.
Yarovesky previously directed 2019 superhero horror film Brightburn, as well as his aforementioned collaboration with Raimi, Nightbooks. There’s currently no word on when Locked is scheduled to go into production.
