Having recently worked together on Showtime’s acclaimed limited series Escape At Dannemora, Ben Stiller and Patricia Arquette are re-teaming for another series, this time at Apple. The show is a comedic detective series titled High Desert in which Arquette will star while Stiller will direct the first episode and executive produce the half-hour series under his Red Hour Films banner.
Arquette will play Peggy, a former addict who decides to make a new start for herself as a private investigator following the death of her mother, who she lived with in the small desert town of Yucca Valley, California. Nancy Fichman (Nurse Jackie), Katie Ford (Miss Congeniality) and Jennifer Hoppe (Grace And Frankie) have created and written the series, and will also executive produce.
Arquette and Stiller both received Emmy nominations for Escape At Dannemora, and while this show doesn’t sound particularly similar, it sounds like something that will tweak the interest of viewers, something Apple desperately needs right now.
This is actually not the first time both Stiller and Arquette have worked with Apple. Stiller is serving as an executive producer on the streaming platform’s upcoming workplace thriller Severance, which Arquette will star in alongside Adam Scott. Stiller and Arquette also worked together on 1996’s Flirting With Disaster.
Apple certainly seems to have a thing for detectives, as alongside High Desert, they’ve also commissioned a comedic murder mystery series with Phil Lord and Chris Miller at the helm, as well as a Canadian detective series from Robert Downey Jr. Considering the current wave of true crime and the success of Knives Out, this is probably a smart move to lure subscribers in.
