More and more events are taking place in person as the year progresses, with less zoom or virtual shows. It is also the case for the Berlin Film festival, which is set to take place outdoors in June. The organisers has organised the event to take place across 16 different special venues.
Of course, hygiene and security plans have been put in place to make the festival as safe as possible and these plans will be coordinated with the venues. The main venue will be the Museum Island Berlin, where the awards ceremony will take place on June 13.
According to Variety, the organizers confirmed that the festival will run from June 9 until June 20, although indoor screenings aren’t planned this year. An open-air cinema experience is the best and safest way that the organizers have found to make people come and enjoy the events without going virtual.
The open-air venues include some of the open-air cinemas in the Berlin area such as Freiluftkino Museumsinsel, Freiluftkino Friedrichshain, Freiluftkino Rehberge, Freiluftkino Kreuzberg, as well as ARTE Sommerkino Kulturforum, and many more.
Organizers said the fest is now working “at full speed” to put measures in place for the outdoor festival. The Summer Special will open on June 9 at the main venue at Museum Island Berlin, while a June 13 awards ceremony will honour the films selected by official juries in March.
The program will be unveiled on May 20, while ticket sales will begin on May 27.
