“Leaning On” is a beautifully dark track from UK indie-pop artist Beth George, who channels that 90s Bristol sound in a track about how she finds solace in songwriting and the creative process.
In her music, the multi talented musician and poetic storyteller delves into her own experiences to provide vivid musical narratives for a disenchanted generation. Her latest single “Leaning On” is somewhat of a love letter to songwriting and the creative process, which like for so many others, is her primary outlet for emotions and the most cathartic way to express herself.
In it, we hear George channelling the spirit of Bristol’s 90s Trip Hop scene, with nods to Massive Attack and Portishead in instrumentation and production. Organic sounds meld with pads and reverb effects as she layers vocals to create choruses which reflect an emotional release from the darker and more introspective verses, all which showcase her brilliantly pure vocal performance.
To accompany the track, George has just dropped a music video which reflects the emotions behind the track, such as the sense of feeling lost, yet finding a flicker of light still burning inside you to keep going. She explains:
“When working on the storyline, I wanted to highlight how the small steps can lead you to big places and new horizons. With every step you’re closer and closer to coming out of the dark and into the world again“.
This release follows George’s previous single “Sour”, which received media support from the likes of Mahogany, BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio and Loud Women. There’s also a music video in the works for “Leaning On” as well as some live dates which will be announced on social media soon.
