Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ Goes Platinum | Music News

Beyonce’s sixth studio album has officially gone Platinum and we’re not surprised!

So, we might never know what the story behind what Lemonade really was – was it merely a fictional tale of a scorned wife getting revenge on her cheating husband or was Bey publicly airing her dirty laundry about Jay-Z’s infidelity? One thing I’m sure most of us can agree on is that it was and still is one of Beyonce’s most influential pieces of work yet.

And the sales say so too as this became the worldwide superstar’s sixth studio album to go Platinum.

That’s over 1 million sales. And despite the fact that the RIAA have started incorporating audio streaming into these figures, it seems that most Beyonce fans are buying the actual album (485,000 in fact counted the week ending April 28). When something’s that good it seems people just need to have it for themselves –  ad-free!

Following up  her previous eponymous visual album from 2013, and the mega hit that was “Formation”, the new 12-track album sees input from fellow music heavyweights James Blake, Jack White, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd as well as being accompanied by a meaty film which tells the story the lyrics portray.

I’m sure you’ve all watched it by now so I won’t go into how much of a cultural impact the whole project has had on pop culture. But we all know what Bey means when she sings “Becky with the good hair” and we know never to cross Beyonce. Ever

Streaming service Tidal (of which Beyonce is one of the many owners) described the concept behind Lemonade as “every woman’s journey of self-knowledge and healing“.

Listen again on TIDAL / iTunes if you can’t get enough.
