Brian Tyree Henry has become a popular figure in Hollywood recently, set to appear in films such as the Melissa McCarthy-led action-comedy Superintelligence, Steve McQueen‘s Widows, Barry Jenkins‘ Moonlight follow-up If Beale Street Could Talk, and the drug drama White Boy Rick.
Add in his supporting role in the acclaimed series Atlanta, and that’s a lot of potentially great projects. Here’s another one for him to add to his resume.
Henry has signed on to join the cast of upcoming monster beat-’em-up Godzilla vs. Kong. He’ll star alongside Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown and Deadpool 2 breakout star Julian Dennison, while Adam Wingard (You’re Next) is attached to direct.
Plot details are pretty thin right now, but I think we can all guess from the title the basic idea of the film. This is the culmination of Legendary Pictures’ recent monster movies, 2014’s Godzilla and 2017’s Kong: Skull Island.
However there’s still another Godzilla movie to come before this big showdown: Godzilla: King Of Monsters, which will bring back the titular radioactive beast and also include franchise favourites like Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah.
There’s no word yet on what role Henry will be playing in Godzilla vs. Kong, but Variety notes that it’s a “significant role”. It’s an impressively quick rise from TV star to Hollywood regular for him. He’ll next be seen – or rather, heard – in the animated film Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, which hits cinemas Friday, December 14.
