In an eloquent blend of visual and auditory storytelling, UK singer-songwriter Matt Perriment releases a live video of “Atlantic Skies” from Love Electric Studios, offering viewers a heartfelt rendition of the title track from his new album.
The studio performance gives a peek into the depth and vulnerability laced through the entire album which was launched on September 29, exploring the myriad of emotions and experiences associated with navigating one’s twenties, including encounters with life, loss, and introspective questions.
Matt Perriment, who carved out a niche for himself in the South England festival scene, is no stranger to weaving tales of emotion through his music.
His folk-inflected songwriting, coupled with an ability to capture evocative and rising choruses reminiscent of artists like Bears Den and Ben Howard, has allowed him to harness the quintessence of the indie folk genre, while preserving his unique musical fingerprint.
Following the success of his debut EP Everlast, two sold-out London headline shows, and several international tours, Perriment stepped back into the spotlight in March 2019 with his EP Memos, garnering support from platforms like BBC Introducing and Spotify editorial.
Memos signalled a deepening of Perriment’s sound, incorporating haunting keys, textured strings, ambient electric guitar flourishes, and a vocal sincerity that pierces.
He described the EP as a transparent glimpse into two years of his life, navigating through love, loss, mental health issues, and a desire to distance himself from London for a period.
Tethering to his continuous artistic evolution, Perriment introduced “Denali,” a track encapsulating metropolitan claustrophobia and a potent desire for wanderlust, inspired by a longing to escape to the Alaskan mountain range.
Using tribal drums and layered vocals, the song explores themes of self-doubt and potential triumph, bringing listeners on a journey from London to the mountainous terrains of New Zealand, where the track was eventually completed.
The accompanying video for “Atlantic Skies” utilizes magnificent footage from the Glencoe Mountains in Scotland, travelling through a spectacular, snowy landscape from an elevated, drone-captured viewpoint.
This visual journey symbolises not just the emotional terrain explored in Perriment’s music but also his transformative journey into a newfound creative confidence.
His work continues to reflect a careful balance of deeply personal narratives against a backdrop of expansive and emotive musical landscapes, positioning Perriment as an artist unafraid to delve into emotional depths and explore new creative horizons.
