Britney Spears, who has unfortunately been struggling with her mental health since she was a teenager, is trying to get better and wants to be around the people who really care about her, which may not include her father, James Spears.
The man had incredible legal power over her healthcare, personal and financial decision-making, a role assigned to him in 2008 after a public breakdown of the pop star, but stepped down last year after some personal issues.
There are currently a lot of rumours about the situation, suggesting that “her father doesn’t allow her to drive, all of her calls and messages are monitored, she’s not allowed to vote, hang with anyone or spend her money without permission. And if she breaks a ‘rule’ he threatens to have her kids taken away”, as a fans-created petition with more than 100,000 signatures alleges.
To prove this odd theory, an official statement from Britney herself was released this week, trying to remove James as her conservator. In a document at the Superior Court of California, Los Angeles, filed by her Lawyer Samuel D Ingham III on Monday (August 17), the pop star stated that she is “strongly opposed” to make her father “return as conservator of her person”.
Instead of him, the artist believes it’s in her best interest to make her temporary conservator, Jodi Montgomery, the permanent replacement for the position. Indeed, even her lawyer stated that Britney’s cures and treatments “must be changed substantially in order to reflect the major changes in her current lifestyle and her stated wishes”, proposing Montgomery for the permanent control.
