Multi-genre artist Brooke Howard, known for enchanting stages from Los Angeles’ Hotel Café Mainstage to New York City’s Bowery Ballroom, has released her new single “Gimme“. The track, marked by a simmering upbeat rhythm, features producer lye.ll and promises an air of “sexy sass and play”, as described by Howard.
Drawing influences from industry stalwarts like Amber Mark, Yebba, and Labrinth, Howard has not only carved her space in the music scene but also garnered noteworthy attention, including a nod of support from GZA of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan.
Her oeuvre is set to further expand with her upcoming album Witch Trap, expected in 2024, which already flaunts a diverse palette from the eerily gripping “Crawlin” to the funk-laden “Hallucinating”, and the recent heartfelt release, “Lavender”.
Speaking about Witch Trap, Brooke highlighted her journey of self-discovery and her aspiration to create music that resonates with the feeling of connection and acceptance in today’s often divisive world. On her collaboration with lye.ll for “Gimme”, she enthused, “It encapsulates the vibe we harness when creating together.”
For the uninitiated, Brooke Howard, with her spellbinding style, has been a force to reckon with. Beyond her impressive performance roster, she crowdfunded a commendable $12,000 for her album, drawing parallels with the sonic finesse of icons like Stevie Nicks and Rihanna. Howard’s tracks released in 2023 have artistically blurred genre lines, encapsulating RnB, alt-pop, hip-hop, and ethereal jazz-pop.
As for lye.ll, or Lyell Evans Roeder, his footprint in the music industry has been significant. From his duo, Tigers Are Bad For Horses, which graced the DC music scene in the mid-2010s, to his collaborations with notable names like BONES UK, Tate Tucker, and Anna Kova. Lyell’s versatility has seen him tour with artists, delve into diverse production roles, and even score award-winning feature films.
In tandem, Brooke Howard and lye.ll seem set to deliver a musical concoction that promises both depth and infectious rhythm. With “Gimme”, listeners can expect a tantalizing teaser to the grand symphony that ‘Witch Trap’ promises to be.
