New York band The Wants are back with a new song ” The Motor”, their next album Container is also scheduled for March 17. It will talk about the complex cycle of self-reflection of the current generation, and about the dark modern anxiety, all in a post-punk style.
The Brooklyn band signed to Council Records, had finished the year 2019 with their first UK tour and the buzz around their upcoming shows at SXSW. Their first single of 2020 “The Motor” was originally intended to be an instrumental but the band adapted it to add vocals.
They waere inspired by David Lynch‘s film Lost Highway, David Bowie‘s soundtrack “I’m Deranged“, and an unstoppable feeling of locomotion. The single has been described as “mildly terrifying” by NME and with a “feeling of unease” by Clash.
The band has also been featured by BB6 Music and promoted by the likes of DIY and The Line of Best Fit, and it was also included in NME‘s 2020 watch list.
“The Motor” is inspired by today’s occidental lifestyle and culture. The instrumentation is minimal post-punk. You can hear electronic beats, guitar and bass. The aim of the band was to create a feeling of unstoppable locomotion through their song.
