Caleb Landry Jones is set to join Tom Hanks in Amblin Entertainment’s sci-fi film Bios, per Variety.
The film will follow Finch, an ailing inventor who is now the last man on earth, and forced to face his own mortality. He builds a robot to keep his beloved dog safe, and the trio embark on an epic cross-country journey, where the scientist must teach his creation to become human enough to take care of its charge, and the beloved pet to accept a new master.
Jones will reportedly play the robot in a motion-capture role. Miguel Sapochnik, who helmed the Emmy-award winning episode of Game Of Thrones titled Battle Of The Bastards, will direct the film from a script penned by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell.
Luck is a young writer who has worked miscellaneous roles on films such as Annihilation and Doctor Strange, while Powell is an experienced assistant director and producer known for his work on Alien and Blade Runner.
Jones has appeared in a myriad of Oscar favourites in recent years, including Get Out, The Florida Project and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and has always had a very distinctive presence about him. Teaming him up with Hanks should be fascinating.
Universal Pictures will reportedly handle distribution in the United States and select international territories. It’s unclear right now when the film is expected to head into production.
