While hailing from Las Vegas, Cam O’Bi has played a major part in building up the Chicago Hip-Hop scene and in turn the wider genre. Having produced and collaborated with the likes of Vic Mensa, Chance The Rapper and Noname as well as Big Sean and Lil’ Wayne, his plaudits have allowed him the grace to do what he loves and do it abundantly. Now it’s time for him do things solo…
“TenderHeaded” serves as the first official single from his upcoming debut project Grown Ass Kid and it features the skills of Smino, who O’bi previously worked with. It is co-produced by Dee Lilly and mixed by O’Bi, Lilly, and Chance collaborator Elton Chueng.
The new track details the upbringings of both O’Bi and Smino and is totally relatable. Light, bouncy and joyous (with the inclusion of baby coos which is interestingly creative). O’Bi passionately raps and Smino croons on the struggles of tough African-American hair and flawed beauty standards, on treacherous neighbourhoods and the passion for the music from an early age. Different stories, same juvenile relatability.
