For those not old enough to experience the outrageous exploits of the latest superhero movie Deadpool, Captain America: Civil War is the next big film on their lists. In the third adventure of Captain America, all the heroes we have been introduced to over Marvel’s Phase 1 and Phase 2 installments will go head-to-head in all-out war over the role of superheroes in the modern world, either falling on the side of Iron Man or Captain America.
Anticipation is reaching fever pitch with much speculation still surrounding this project, including whether Spider-Man will make an appearance. However, one of the stars of the film, Anthony Mackie, has shed a little more light on what to expect from Civil War. Speaking to Empire, Mackie, who plays The Falcon in the film, had this to say: “I would say this one is more of a true suspense thriller.”
Captain America: The First Avenger was a war story and The Winter Soldier was more of a espionage thriller, but suspense thriller is a strange way to explain a film that has marketed itself as an all-star superhero punch-up. Not so, says Mackie, who is keen to point out that it is not going to be a brawling film:
“If it’s a civil war, you have to establish why there’s a war; you can’t just start fighting and expect people to appreciate it. The build-up to the fight is what makes it so interesting, because there are so many different factions of who’s right and who’s wrong and who supports who. Once we get all of that out the way, then it becomes more action-packed and more of us kicking each others’ ass.”
There is not long to go until all is revealed and we find out what exactly has caused Iron Man and the Cap’s little tiff. Captain America: Civil War hits cinemas April 29 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Don Cheadle and Martin Freeman.
