Get your excited hat on, the incomparable Cate Blanchett is in talks to star in Eli Roth‘s The House With A Clock In Its Walls alongside none other than Jack Black. It’s not a pairing you might have imagined ever happening, but now that its a possibility, it’s definitely something you want.
Eli Roth’s direction of John Bellair‘s 1973 gothic horror novel uses a script by Eric Kripke (Supernatural), who also produces with Brad Fischer and James Vanderbilt.
It tells the story of an orphaned boy who moves in with his uncle (Jack Black), who turns out to be a witch of sorts. The boy is immersed in a world of dangerous magic, which epitomises when he finds a clock in the walls counting down to doomsday.
Cate Blanchett’s role would be that of Mrs. Zimmerman, the uncle’s neighbor and best friend, and fellow witch. The two-time Oscar winner has enjoyed a wide range of varied roles, and while we’ve seen her play Elf Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings, we’ve not quite seen her as a witch. I imagine she’ll be brilliant.
Blanchett has a plethora of films coming our way; she’ll be seen as villainess Hela in Marvel’s Thor: Ragnarok (27 October 2017), and in the all-female Ocean’s Eight (June 2018). She’s also currently filming Richard Linklater’s Where’d You Go Bernadette opposite Kristen Wiig, while her Lucille Ball biopic Lucy and Desi was also recently acquired by Amazon. Plenty of Cate coming our way.
