North London based artist Charles follows up on his striking debut single “Red. Green. Gold.” with another stylishly soulful take. Produced by Gil Lewis, “Darker Shade Of Green” is another example of the impressive and cultured sound this young artist is producing, placing Charles firmly in the category of ones to watch.
His sultry, deep, bass-driven voice and how it bounces effortlessly is definitely one of the remarkable aspects on this track. Channeling the feelings of love and jealousy, the 21 year-old produces a blend of soul and R&B, fusing a grooved-out rhythm with the full range of his trademark vocals – a combination that continues to draw comparisons from Isaac Hayes to Dev Hynes.
Speaking on the track, Charles stated: “Being in love is a beautiful thing, but people forget to tell you what the actual T is. It’s hard […] work, graft and jealousy loves to creep in at any opportunity. I struggled with that emotion [jealousy] because I never expected it from love. It took me completely by surprise and it’s still something that I’m trying to keep under control.”
Having already caught the attention of major online tastemakers, Charles prepares to take 2018 head on with this latest release. Get to know this future star and press play.
