Pop artists Charli XCX and Troye Sivan have teamed up again to release a new collaboration, an edgy futurist single titled “2099”.
Following their trip to the past century with “1999”, the iconic duo has used their ‘time machine’ one more time to drop a brand-new experimental single that is a 100 years from their previous vintage pop tune.
Charli XCX told Rolling Stone that she met Sivan by coincidence and that they decided to work together a long time ago. “When I first moved to LA three years ago and first got my place, I was doing a lot of house parties,” Charli XCX revealed.
Then, she added that “It’d be open invite and a lot of people came, a lot of people I didn’t know. It was pretty fun actually. Troye came to one of the parties, and that’s where I first met him. We got talking and realized we had a lot of mutual friends. Immediately I thought he was super sweet”.
“2099” was produced by A.G. Cook and Ö and a music video will be coming out really soon to accompany the new track. Synth-heavy beats and layers of sound set the tone in Charli and Sivan’s futuristic tune, forming a beautiful blend with their smooth vocals.
The song will serve as the closing track on Charli, the fifth studio album of Charli XCX. Her previously-released singles “Warm”, a collaboration with Haim, “1999” and “Blame It on Your Love”, featuring Lizzo, will also be part of the artist upcoming album, coming out on September 13.
