During his three shows at Pharos festival in New Zealand, American artist Childish Gambino (Donald Glover) has surprised the crowd with his secret film starring the Barbadian singer Rihanna.
Earlier this year, Cuban magazine Vistar had published photos of Glover and Rihanna on a film set in Cuba. That was when rumours had began to surface about the movie. At first, it was uncertain whether it was going to be merely music project or a film.
However, now it is known that it is indeed a film, reportedly called Guava Island that co-stars Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie and has been directed by Hiro Murai who also helmed Atlanta and Glover’s “This Is America” music video.
Glover’s character says in the trailer: “We live in paradise but none of us actually have the time or the means to live here. We work hard. We deserve a day off. We’re just takin’ what’s ours”. This gives us a pretty good idea of what the concept of the movie may be. Rihanna will portray his love interest and partner-in-crime. This teaser trailer gets us enough excited and impatient to see the film. Release dates are yet to be confirmed.
