A24 has tapped Chloe Okuno to rewrite and direct a horror movie titled Bodies Bodies Bodies. Kristen Ropuenian wrote the original spec script that A24 bought back in March 2018. The story follows a group of friends who find themselves under attack while playing drinking games in a cabin in the woods. The script reportedly plays with social dynamics in a subversive way.
If you haven’t heard of Okuno before, don’t worry. A24 has plucked her from relative obscurity. She’s best known for her 2014 short film Slut, which follows a young girl who becomes the target of a murderous sociopath after she attempts to reinvent herself to impress the boys in her small Texas town. The short helped Okuno land a gig writing Orion’s remake of 1977 supernatural thriller Audrey Rose.
Considering A24’s track record, especially with horror titles such as Hereditary, The Witch, and the upcoming critical hit The Lighthouse, this project is worth getting excited about. It’s also a huge opportunity for Okuno, and it’s great to see a studio giving up-and-coming filmmakers a chance to burst onto the scene with an original project like this.
A24 also has plenty of exciting non-horror projects on the horizon. Trey Edward Shults‘ drama Waves and the Adam Sandler drama Uncut Gems are both arriving soon, while The Farewell continues to garner critical acclaim on its way to a likely Best Picture nomination. Arguably the best studio going today continues to extend their gap between themselves and the rest of the pack.
