Christian Bale may re-team with his Out Of The Furnace and Hostiles director Scott Cooper for a secret project. Power producer John Lesher is reportedly developing a new film for the two currently titled Valhalla. While plot details are a mystery, the film is apparently “percolating” at Netflix.
There’s no official word on the film as of yet, and representatives for Bale, Cooper, and even previously-rumoured star Joel Edgerton have denied it’s happening. But Deadline and Collider have each reported that there’s probably something to this.
Bale and Cooper re-teaming wouldn’t be a surprise. They’ve already made two solid films together, and Valhalla sounds like another mediation on masculinity from Cooper, a subject he always seems to gravitate to. However, his reported next film, Antlers, will boast a female protagonist in the form of Keri Russell.
On top of that, Lesher and Cooper are also developing another project together. It’s titled Over Tumbled Graves, and is likely an adaptation of Jess Walter‘s acclaimed thriller of the same name. The novel follows a female detective as she tracks a serial killer in Spokane, Washington.
It’s unclear which project Cooper will helm first. Rumour has it that the reason the Bale project popped up in the news recently is because Cooper is moving forward with that, most likely to take advantage of a rare gap in Bale’s schedule. Yet we’re still not sure if it actually exists! We’ll have to wait and see if there’s an official announcement down the line.
