Having worked together on The Fighter and American Hustle, Christian Bale and David O. Russell are set to team up once again. Bale will star in Russell’s next project, which is reportedly being fast-tracked by New Regency. Not only that, but an A-list cast is reportedly being sought.
Fellow Oscar winners Jamie Foxx and Angelina Jolie are being courted for roles, while Jennifer Lawrence – who has also worked with Russell before on the aforementioned American Hustle, as well as Silver Linings Playbook and Joy – was in consideration for the female lead, though interest may have now shifted towards Margot Robbie instead.
What is the film about? It’s not entirely clear yet. Per Collider, the working title is Amsterdam, and the story will follow the unlikely partnership between a doctor and a lawyer. Production is reportedly scheduled to begin in April. That would give Bale plenty of time to shoot the film before reporting for Thor: Love And Thunder in the summer.
It makes sense that Bale would want to work with Russell again. Although the director is notorious for being tricky to work with, he did help Bale earn a Best Supporting Actor Oscar win for The Fighter, and grab a Best Actor nomination for American Hustle.
Russell hasn’t directed a film since 2015, but he has been developing the hijacking tale The Skies Belong To Us, which has Michael B. Jordan attached to star and produce. He’s always been one for a big, impressive cast, and it looks like he’ll be able to put another expensive collection of stars together for this project too.
