Ghanaian fashion designer, Christie Brown has incorporated 1800’s European design into her Spring 2016 collection. The designer traditionally takes inspiration from bright colours and textured fabric conventionally used in Northern Ghana. Northern Ghanians are extremely under represented in the countries high street fashion but Brown is one of the leading designers at the forefront of this category.
Brown has collaborated her heritage traditions with influence from European fashion designs from the 1800’s. The chiffon in particular echoes European dresses, the embroidered detail similarly takes influence from this period. Brown continues her Ghanian influence by incorporating bright warm colours, floral patterns and cut off shoulders. It’s an interesting and unsuspected combination but Brown has shown how complimentary the two genres can be in creating a stylish design.
