Chromatone, son to a single-parent concert pianist mother who fled the Iron Curtain in Czechoslovakia, now shares a teaser of his new song, Adele’s “Hello”. He has worked with established producers such as Guy Katsav and Anthony Lim, whose credits include Ed Sheeran and Paul McCartney.
His influences are varied and diverse, including Metallica, Chris Brown (“when he was good”) and Earth, Wind & Fire. His debut EP, The Ripple Effect (2011), sold over 4,000 copies in less than four months, attracting radio support across UK and Germany. His recent YouTube videos have also garnered 1.5 million views in just eight months.
“Hello” is smooth in vocal delivery, but has a rather unnerving backdrop. It feels like a cross between ethereal, haunting and setting the listener on edge. You could suppose in a way, it perfectly encapsulates the very feeling and sentiments of the original, whilst definitely embellishing the more unsettling elements, like the contrast between its vocal and backdrop.
