Columbia Pictures Acquires YA Novel ‘We’re Not From Here’ For Adaptation | Film News

Columbia Pictures have acquired the rights to Geoff Rodkey‘s young adult novel We’re Not From Here and are planning for a feature adaptation.

The plan is for a hybrid live-action/animation film which Rodkey will adapt with Mike Mitchell (Trolls, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part) directing and Will Gluck and Jodi Hildebrand of Olive Bridge Entertainment producing.

The book follows a family of humans who immigrate to an alien planet. Rodkey is also the creator of the bestselling Tapper Twins comedy book series. His big screen credits include Daddy Day Care, The Shaggy Dog and RV, as well as writing for Beavis & Butt-head.

Mitchell’s two aforementioned films grossed $200 million and $347 million at the worldwide box office, respectively. That kind of profit will always keep a director working, especially if they already have a track record with family-orientated films. Mitchell also worked extensively on the Shrek franchise and wrote for Spongebob Squarepants.
