Corey Feldman made an appearance on US television’s Today last week accompanied by his Angels to deliver a performance of his latest single, “Go 4 It”, a performance that subsequently went viral for all the wrong reasons.
When questioned on the “angel” theme of his band and new album Angelic 2 The Core, Feldman – better known for his roles in classic 80s films such as The Goonies, Stand by Me and License to Drive – said that “angels have probably saved me once or twice in my life and I like helping them as well” adding that he created Corey’s Angels as a way of helping girls who are “lost” make their “realities their dreams”.
The performance itself – which featured bizzare Michael Jackson-esque dance routines, Angels whose costumes weren’t particularly Christian, and a surprise appearance by Doctor Ice – has been subject to brutal online ridicule since it surfaced last week. It has been reported that in an online video posted in the wake of the backlash, Feldman broke down in tears when defending his performance:
“All we can say is that we tried really hard. Because we love our fans and we just wanted to give them the best show that we could… These things that are said about us are awful”. He then went on to reveal that, “we can’t get out of bed right now…We’re petrified to even go out… And I’m sorry, but we just wanted the world to know, like, we’re really freaked out over this and it’s really not fair”.
Angelic 2 The Core is out now.
