After being at the centre of the attention for his double album Dangerous, the country singer Morgan Wallen has now found himself in another scandal. Already a few months ago, he was rescheduled to play at the famous show the Saturday Night Live but he broke COVID-19 sanitary protocols just before coming to the show so they decided to cancel again.
However a few days ago, the online tabloid TMZ released a video where we can see the singer outside with a group of people.
Int the video we can clearly hear Morgan Wallen saying some very vulgar, discriminating and racial words, including using the N-word. Obviously as soon as the video of Morgan saying these things surfaced, it was going to have repercussion on the country star’s career.
Wallen has already released an apology saying, “I’m embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back […] There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better“.
It has been reported that the singer has already been dropped by radio stations across the country, such as iHeartMedia and other influential music radios, while his recording contract with Bid Loud Records, has reportedly been suspended indefinitely regarding the current situation.
Major label Republic Records is fully supporting Bid Loud Records’s decision regarding the country singer because first of all, this behaviour is unacceptable and secondly it isn’t the first time that the singer has used these words so this time, it is not going without any sanctions.
A few artists have been expressing their displeasure towards the singer on their social media, but also some going as far as stating that this behaviour is not that shocking coming from a country singer – they are seen as the ‘cowboys’ of the music industry – so the singer’s public apology might not be enough for the music industry.
The country music scene is also very disappointed in Morgan especially after having such a great month with his album. We now hope that the singer is going to be able to think about his attitude and make amends to the music community and especially to the Black community.
