23 years after the release of Coming To America, Amazon has just released a new extended trailer for the sequel Coming 2 America, highlighting the return of Eddy Murphy and Arsenio Hall in their respective characters of King Akeem and Semmi.
This new opus takes us on a journey between New York and the fictional city of Zamunda. After years of power in his country Zamunda, King Akeem has built a real family with Lisa – whom we meet in the first opus – and have three daughters together.
But as soon as he learns that the throne can only be taken over by a male heir and that he begins to fall prey to a coup d’état, the two protagonists leave for New York in search of Akeem’s lost son.
“Set in the lush and royal country of Zamunda, newly crowned King Akeem (Eddy Murphy) and his trusted confidante Semmi (Arsenio Hall) embark on all-new hilarious adventure that has them traversing the globe from their great African nation to the borough of Queens, New York – where it all began”, said Amazon about the movie.
The vast majority of the cast from the first opus are back for this new film, including James Earl Jones, Shari Headley, Vanessa Bell Calloway, John Amos, and Paul Bates.
It will also feature Jermaine Flower, Lesli Jones, Tracy Morgan, KiKi Layne, Teyana Taylor, Nomzamo Mbatha, and Bella Murphy.
Coming 2 America is directed by Craig Bewer and the characters were imagined by Eddy Murphy himself, who also serves as producer alongside Kevin Misher. Written by Barry W. Blaustein & David Sheffield, and Kenya Barris, the film will be available on Amazon Prime on March 5.
