Cynthia Erivo (Harriet, The Outsider) has signed on to produce and star in sci-fi film Blink Speed, which is in development at Netflix. Eric Brown will write the script, based off his own short story. Matt Jackson, who also produced Aaron Sorkin‘s Netflix film The Trial Of The Chicago 7, will produce.
Erivo will play a young woman who discovers she has a rare and mysterious savant ability following a near-death experience. This new skill might just be the key to unlocking the truth behind her past.
Erivo was a big name in the theater world – winning a Tony award for The Color Purple – before breaking out on film and TV over the last few years with roles in Widows, Bad Times At The El Royale, her Oscar-nominated performance in Harriet, and a key role in the HBO series adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Outsider.
While we know very little about Blink Speed right now, it looks like another interesting project in Erivo’s burgeoning career. She also has roles in Disney’s Pinnochio and the Luther film alongside Idris Elba lined up. She’s also no stranger to sci-fi, having just starred in John Ridley‘s sci-fi thriller Needle In A Timestack.
We’ll wait for more news regarding Blink Speed to arrive. Erivo is producing the film under her production banner Edith’s Daughter alongside Salome Williams.
