Netflix have a created a brand that has produced some great original content, ignoring Adam Sandler‘s turd that was the The Ridiculous 6.
Teaming up with Marvel was a master-stroke as the violence and action is allowed to be much more intense than anything in the PG-13 marvel cinematic universe. This in turn creates an actual sense of dread and nervous tension. The recent Jessica Jones pushed the sexual boundaries of the superhero universe, but was always a poor cousin to excellent Daredevil series.
The first episode confirms this is still the best superhero TV show. With Daredevil and House of Cards on Netflix why would you need any other TV!
All distant memories of the terrible Ben Affleck film have truly been banished as Charlie Cox continues to create the and expand on the defining portrayal of the character. The supporting cast are all back including the annoying but bearable comic relief Foggy (Elden Henson) who continues to question his friend actions and Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) is still swooning after the handsome Matt.
The slow introduction of the Punisher character (Jon Bernthal) is excellent and I cannot wait to see more of him. The action is bloody, violent, unexpected and a visual spectacle; the best Marvel have ever produced. The fight scene at the climax of the episodes holds actual jeopardy, as we have seen before Daredevil can bleed.
Bring on the next episode!
