On Sunday Paramount + has announced that the series From Cradle To Stage, unscripted by the Foo Fighters frontman, Dave Grohl, and his mother, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, will arrive on May 6 to the streaming services, just in time for Mother’s Day in the US.
The beginning of this creation was reported back in 2018. The series is directed by the rocker and will be in six-part. It was inspired by Virginia’s 2017 book from the same title.
In her book, Virginia spoke to other mothers of famous musicians such as Janis Winehouse, Marianne Stipe, and more. The series will also explore the relationship between famous musical artists and their mothers, their upbringing, and the skills they learned as children that would go on to prepare them for success.
Each of the six-episode will be about another artist and his mom and new episodes will be out each Thursday. The guest will be Imagine Dragons’ Dan Reynold and Christene Reynolds, Pharrell and Dr. Carolyn Williams, Miranda and Bev Lambert, Brandi and Teresa Carlile, Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello and Mary Morello as well as Rush’s Geddy Lee and Mary Weinrib.
In a press release about the upcoming series Dave Grohl says “I believe that the relationship between a musician and their mother is so important because it’s the foundation of their understanding of love which is surely every artist’s greatest muse.”
He also adds “Having the opportunity to travel the country and tell the stories of these amazing women behind the curtain not only shed some light on the music that they inspired, but also made me appreciate the love that I was given from my own mother, my best friend. It goes without saying that we are all indebted to the women who have given us life. For without them, there would be no music.”
Paramount + has also unveiled a teaser for the series. In it, we can see Virginia and her son on the road to visit the other musicians as well as their mother.
Furthermore, recently Dave Grohl has also shared a trailer for his upcoming movie about touring and vans titled What Drives Us, featuring interviews with Ringo Starr, AC/DC Brian Johnson, Red Hot Chili Peppers’s Flea, and more. This documentary will air on Amazon Prime on April 30.
