Jordan Peele, with just one feature film under his belt, has quickly risen from being known for sketch comedy to being one of the most talked-about young directors working today. After the mega success of Get Out, which earned him an Academy Award, there’s been plenty of talk regarding details of his next film.
While there was notable interest from the big studios to get Peele on board for a big budget film – and he reportedly turned down the chance to helm Warner Bros. Akira remake – Peele committed to making another ‘social thriller’ for Universal, and he has now revealed the title and the first poster for the film.
The movie is titled Us, and is described on the poster as “A New Nightmare from the Mind of Academy Award Winner Jordan Peele“. Even more excitingly, Variety reports that Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to star in the film, with Elisabeth Moss and Black Panther breakout star Winston Duke in talks for two other lead roles.

Plot details are still being kept under wraps, but around this time last year Peele mentioned that he had a number of ideas for other ‘social thrillers’ that he would like to explore, and that this next project would be one of them:
“I wanna stay in the genre. While I was developing [Get Out] I was also simultaneously developing four other projects that I call social thrillers. Each one is meant to deal with a different human demon; a different monster that sort of lurks underneath the way that we interact with one another as human beings. So I hope to soon direct another one of these social thrillers.
It’s not gonna be about race, it’ll be about something else, but it’s gonna be very cinematic and fun. To come up with the perfect monster for a horror movie we really need to look no further than the monster that is all of us. Not so much an individual psycho killer, but the humanity that gets lost between us”.
Us will without a doubt be one of the most anticipated films of 2019, and if the proposed cast comes together, it will be shaping up to be another huge hit for Peele. Interestingly, the film is not being produced by Blumhouse as Get Out was, and instead by Peele’s own Monkeypaw Productions, possibly because the budget is larger and out of the normal range for Blumhouse films.
Either way, any details that emerge regarding Us will be heavily discussed over the next year as fans hotly anticipate the film, which is due to hit cinemas on March 15, 2019.
