During the most recent episode of Major Lazer’s Beats 1 show Lazer Sound, Diplo took a few moments to reflect upon the success of the previous Major Lazer album and discuss future material.
Speaking about the insane level of success the last Major Lazer album, Peace Is The Mission, achieved, Diplo was surprised at how “Lean On” became one of the most streamed songs of all time, with the video receiving more than 1.3 billion views on YouTube.
Looking to replicate that level of success with Major Lazer’s forthcoming material, Diplo has announced that Major Lazer will be releasing a new single later this year, titled “Cold Water”, and it will reunite Diplo with MØ and Justin Bieber.
With the level of success he achieved with both artists in the past, MØ with “Lean On” and Bieber with “Where Are Ü Now”, it seems likely that Diplo will have another mega-hit on his hands with “Cold Water”.
While Diplo will be on tour with Major Lazer all the summer, he says that they are already at work on the new album. While he does not give a specific date for the first single, “Cold Water”, he does say it will be out within the next “couple weeks”.
Judging from Diplo’s track record, it sounds like he might have the song of summer on his hands with “Cold Water”.
