Rumours of a second Hocus Pocus movie have been going around since its annual Disney Channel airings made the pic a cult classic. Finally, prayers have been (somewhat) answered, but not everyone is going to be happy. I, for one, am not, as Disney’s announcement of a TV movie includes an entirely new cast and director.
The 1993 original starred Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy as a trio of witches who are resurrected at Halloween; it is up to a couple of teenagers to stop them from wrecking havoc in Salem. Kenny Ortega directed the film, written by Neil Cuthberg and Mick Garris.
The TV adaptation, only in its early stages, will be written by The Royals‘ Scarlett Lacey. Whilst none of the cast are returning, at least David Kirschner, who produced the original, is set to executive produce, leaving some inkling of the original in the sequel. It’s not enough to satisfy audiences though.
