Following a teaser a month ago, Disney has now released the full trailer for the upcoming sequel Mary Poppins Returns.
Rob Marshall (Chicago) is helming the follow-up to the classic 1964 film, which sees Mary Poppins (Emily Blunt) returning to the Banks family after they suffer a loss. Michael and Jane are now adults, but Mary and her friend Lamplighter Jack have come to being joy to the lives of Michael’s three children.
The trailer presents the exact kind of film fit for the holidays, and looks to have captured the spirit of the original quite well. The sequel will also bring back the 2D animation in the vein of the famous sequence in the original, along with some CGI-infused updates, too. Blunt also looks to be perfectly cast in the title role.
The film also stars Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and Julie Walters. It’s hard to imagine Mary Poppins Returns not being a box office smash when it hits cinemas Wednesday, December 19.
